On a recent HealingLifeWisdom podcast, we introduced you to foodbabe.com. Vani Hari is an advocate who is making a big difference in the food industry. You may recognize what Vani has done, but you may not have known her name. Check out this list of companies that she took including Subway, Kraft, General Mills, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Panera Bread, Anheiser Busch, Miller Coors, Whitewave, Starbucks, General Mills, In-N-Out, the list goes on and on!
Vani has a new book called Feeding You Lies that details all of the food corruption that is going on. For instance, did you know that Kellogg's sells safer, cleaner products in other countries? As she writes “Nothing makes her more angry than companies who put profits over people, especially when they make promises they don't keep…” We both bought our own copies and just finished reading this powerful book that you MUST read!
In just a few examples, in 2015 Kellogg's told the media that they were removing artificial dyes (Red 40, Blue 1, Yellow 6) from Froot Loops in America. They were already selling Froot Loops without these dyes in the U.K. and other countries, so it should have been a swift and easy transition. At the time they said it would be completed by 2018... but we are still waiting for them to make this change. Are they going to keep their promise? There is absolutely no reason why Kellogg's can't sell the same products that they sell overseas in America. If a company can get away with using cheaper ingredients, they will. Given a choice, they’ll always opt for the cheaper flavor enhancer, and the cheaper color additive, and the cheaper preservative, and the cheaper GMO ingredient, even if these cheaper alternatives have a negative impact on our health.
The Food Babe dedicated an entire chapter in her book, Feeding You Lies, to this very subject because there is so much more you need to know! The food industry doesn’t care about your health, so you really need to.
On her Facebook feed, she recently shared an infographic that shows that America’s version of Froot Loops has 28 ingredients listed. The Australia version has 9 ingredients and when the Australian packaging refers to natural colors, they reference, carmine, paprika, vegetable carbon, turmeric and copper chlorophyll. None of the Red 40, Blue 1, or yellow 6 artificial coloring is included in Australian version.
My siblings and I ate this cereal as kids! Kellogg’s must still be selling a lot of this cereal because it’s still available. Please let this tape keep running in your head “I must read the food labels front and back!”
